About Us:
VanOutdoors Society is a unique experiential education not for profit society directed
towards inspiring Chinese Canadians to learn about and explore B.C’s beautiful
wilderness. VanOutdoors previously ran on a volunteer model, starting in 2013, and has
recently launched its full time operations as of this February. In addition to the ongoing
programming that we lead in Vancouver, Canada, VanOutdoors holds two international
trips per year. One trip to commence in the spring and the other in summer. The spring
trip is expected to run for about 10 days in the beautiful country of Morocco.
Overview:
The Religion and Culture Scholar for our trip to Morocco is an integral role within the
trip’s educational component. This position will require extensive knowledge in relation
to Moroccan religion and/or culture. The successful candidate to fulfill this position will
be responsible for ensuring that the educational components related to religion and
culture within the trip is well fulfilled. This will be a contracted position that will begin with
part-time hours to help with trips educational planning and will end with full time hours
for the duration of the trip (around March 17th to 25th).
Major focuses for VanOutdoors international trips are; authentic cultural integration,
community volunteering, and an overall foundation of Experiential Education. VanOutdoors
aims to provide unique international experiences to all of its students and members.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure all educational components relating to religion and culture are well thought out.
- Proactively deliver the religion and culture educational components of the trip.
- Effectively communicate with the Director of Operations and Educational
Program Manager regarding planning needs and support.
- Work directly with students, parents, and the public to effectively deliver the
program and planning materials.
Experience:
- Experience working in Morocco.
In progress or have already obtained a bachelor's degree with a focus in
religion and culture studies, education, or similarly related.
Hours:
This will be a part-time transitioning into full time position as we get closer to the date.
Reporting Relationship:
The Religion and Culture Scholar will report directly to the Director of Operations.
